Have a cupcake, or two, or three

IMG_3980Cupcakes seem to be one of the latest fashions in wedding food. And here’s the good news – you can make them yourself!! Here are a few photos of cupcakes I’ve made over the last few weeks for some inspiration, although there are some much prettier ones available in other blogs and websites (I’m still new at this…). I’ll be posting a simple vanilla cupcake recipe of my other blog, http://somesomeandsome.blogspot.com soon, so look out there if you want a closer look at the making of a cupcake!

Blog Posts Direct From My Desktop

I have just discovered (and successfully posted the last entry to this blog using) Windows Live Writer – it is brilliant – I write the post in Windows Live Writer without worrying about going online (you can see how lazy I am!), click “Publish” and I’m done. I love new toys to play with!

Summer Celebration - BBQ

I’m preparing a long post with ideas for an informal summer wedding picnic at the moment. But in the mean time I thought I’d quickly post with one alternative idea for an outdoor celebration. Some pubs (I know of only one, but I’m sure there are others around the country!) hire out BBQ facilities and sell meat ready to be cooked on the BBQ, salads and rolls for reasonable prices. This would be a fantastic way to celebrate outdoors with much of the organising of food done for you. Just add guests and drinks from the bar!! For those wondering…the pub I know of that does this is the Turf Locks, near Exeter, whose BBQs are in an area of grass lawn along the banks of the River Exe – a stunning location, particularly as the sun sets – for any outdoor celebration.

Summer Wedding Invitation

Well, to get things kick-started, I thought I'd post some ideas for a DIY informal summer wedding. Over the next week or so I'll post various ideas for a wedding with this theme. Part of the inspiration for this comes from some friends, who said that they had a picnic after their church ceremony, and it sounds like it went really well (they got married before I knew them so can't comment on this from personal experience). A picnic sounds like a fantastic idea for a warm summer's day (though you may need a back-up plan in case it rains...) For this wedding, how about an invitation with a high quality picture of the location in which your picnic will be held (the photo used in the invitation below is of sunset over the River Exe, taken from near Exmouth in Devon). Lots of people have good cameras that take high-quality images, and you may just find a kind friend willing to lend their camera to you (or take the photo for you). I'd suggest that you take a number of shots, perhaps at different times of day, and then choose the best for your invitation. Then, simply add your text (the text in the invitation below was added in Microsoft Paint), make sure the size of the picture is appropriate and then print off your invitations, either at home or on the High Street - you should be able to do this anywhere you would normally print off digital photos. This invitation took only a few minutes to create, and the cost to print each photo/invitation will be only a few pennies each.

More wedding ideas with this theme to follow in future posts. I'll also be posting some yummy food ideas, suitable for both special occassions like weddings, or for home entertaining as soon as I manage to upload photos of the food onto the computer...

Disclaimer: The names, places, phone number and event used in the invitation are meant to be fictional. Any reference to real people, places, phone numbers or events is entirely unintentional. Apologies if I have unwittingly referred to real people, places, phone numbers or events.

Hello!!

Well, this is my first blog post, and I'm still trying to figure everything out. So, I thought I'd use this first blog post to describe what I want this blog to be about. Although I got married a number of years ago, and have been happily married since then, I still love weddings. But, I'm also shocked by average prices of weddings, particularly during a recession, and fully believe that weddings and other special occassions need not be that expensive. This blog aims to provide information, craft products and ideas on food, decorations and activities to create memorial, but cheap special occassions. The primary focus will be on weddings, but I may stray into other areas as well...
